The Santos Juanes
A little description of the facade of Santos Juanes (Valencia, Spain).
The Santos Juanes church is one of the oldest churches in Valencia. It is also known as the church of San Juan del Mercado. It was built in 14th century in gothic style.
Before the reconquest it was a mosque and after that, christians turn it into a hermitage. In 14th century, the hermitage was burn and the city re-built it as the Santos Juanes church.
It is place besides the Mercado Central and in front of the Lonja de la Seda.
In 1552 there was a terrible fire and the interior was completely refurbished. Its final structure dates from late 17th century and earley 18th century (barosque style).
An interesting fact is that on the tower lock we can found an eagle known as the “pardal de Sant Joan” and in the market there is a parrot. Both of them look to each other.
June 19th 1936, during the civil war it was burned (again) and that can, still, be noticed
